Part 3 of 3: The Brand - Six Years, Five Million Products, and What Comes Next
This is Part 3 of the E-XHALE story. Start from Part 1 or catch up with Part 2.
A five by five metre room on Main Road in Walmer, Port Elizabeth. That was the first real office. Not a bedroom, not a dining room table, not a corner of a parent's home. An actual space, with a door, a lease, and WiFi that came with the rental because the business was still too young to qualify for a contract of its own.
It was not much. But it was a line in the sand. The side project had become a company. The company needed somewhere to operate from. And the people slowly filling those cramped square metres were building something real.
From that room, everything that followed was built.
The Shape of Growth
Growth in a small business rarely feels like growth when you are standing inside it. It feels like one problem quietly replaced by a slightly larger version of the same problem.
More sales meant more orders. More orders meant more stock. More stock meant a warehouse, not a lounge. A warehouse meant staff to run it. Staff meant payroll. Payroll meant cash flow.
And cash flow meant learning, properly, how a business finances its own growth without buckling under the weight of it.
Each year added a layer the year before had never demanded. In 2022, the product line expanded and the team grew into a proper small business shape. In 2023, national retail partnerships became a reality, no longer a handful of stores in Port Elizabeth, but chains and stockists across South Africa's provinces. In 2024, the warehouse in Gqeberha was expanded to ten times its previous size. A Cape Town distribution centre opened.
Regional offices followed in Gauteng, Durban, and the Garden Route. The brand crossed borders into Namibia, Botswana, and then, through the Juice Kloud brand, into Greece. And then came the products nobody else had made before.
Three Brands, One Foundation
E-XHALE remains the original. The flagship. The range that began in a bedroom and grew into something trusted by thousands of South Africans who found it long before six thousand stores ever stocked it.The range now spans 900 puff disposables, 2,000 puff collections, 10K Pro and 15K Pod devices, the 20,000 puff Juice Kloud rechargeable, and the E-Pod Pro, a fully refillable system that points to where the brand is going, not where it has been.
Juice Kloud arrived in 2024, built for a generation that wants higher puff counts, bolder flavours, and a device that simply does more. Its products now reach markets as far afield as Greece.
LIPI followed in 2024, and it is perhaps the most significant innovation the company has produced. Nicotine pouches in multiple strengths. And South Africa's first nicotine infused flavoured mints, a product that did not exist in this country until E-XHALE created it. Not a trend followed, but a category opened.
Three brands. Over 75 SKUs. A high customer rating across more than 500 verified reviews. More than five million products delivered. Sixty plus team members. And 6,500 active retail partners across Southern Africa.
Numbers that would have been almost impossible to picture back in September 2020, when the same founder was sleeping in the same room as 5,000 units, quietly wondering why only 80 of them had sold in the first three weeks.
What Six Years Actually Means
Six years on, the headline numbers tell one story, but the foundation beneath them tells another. This was a brand built through real pressure, on borrowed support, hard calls, and lessons learned the difficult way. Every decision made in those early years, when survival was not guaranteed, shaped the company E-XHALE became once the pressure finally eased.
For the People Who Were There First
The customers who found E-XHALE before the 6,500 retail partners did, who bought from a website built by someone who had never built a website, who ordered from a brand still operating out of a bedroom and a borrowed car, they are part of this story too.
They are the ones who told a friend. Who came back when they could easily have tried something else. Who kept buying through the range cuts, the product changes, and the years when the brand was still working out exactly what it was.
And just as much, this story belongs to everyone who came after. The team members who poured themselves into the work, the retail partners who backed the brand, the suppliers, the freelancers, and the customers who keep choosing E-XHALE every single day. None of this happens alone. To every single person who has been part of this journey, in ways big and small, thank you. This success is yours too.
This birthday belongs as much to all of you as it does to the brand.
Six years of E-XHALE. Six bundles to celebrate six years of the range. Giveaways for the customers who kept showing up. A month to look back at how far this has come, before turningto look at what comes next.
And the focus now is clear: to become the number one choice in the category, a top employer, and a brand with a growing international footprint, all by 2030.
The dream continues.
